I am striving to offer the most comprehensive dance educator/dance school insurance program. I am interested in the liability issues/concerns of the dance world. Coverage is provided by Zurich US, rated A+ by AM Best. I have a BFA in Arts Management, and have worked with programming at the Tilles Center and 92nd St. Y. I can be contacted at 800-929-8777 or lemert@get-insured.com.

Welcome to the board Leora. That is a valuable service that you provide, especially in this day of so much controversy in the arts/dance world about liability issues.
Are you requesting information on opinions here as to what we think some of those issues are?
If, so - I am sure we can come up with quite a number of them.............
I know of one ballet teacher here in San Diego who was successfully sued for calling a child fat in front of the class.

Basheva,
I appreciate your reply. A dance school/studio operation will have most of the same areas of liability exposure as any school does. Calling a child "fat" or any other negative name would also be possible cause for suit in any school situation. Dance Educators should be trained in how to properly work with children/adolescents, including proper ways to speak to students. Dance school owners can avoid exposure to suits by making certain teachers are trained properly!
