I am in need of some professional guidance and assitance from people in the industry

I am assisting out local Ballet Company to tidy up their act and reduce number of injuries sustain by dancers

They are a company of 19 and given the scarce resources available have recently freaked when presented with a workers comp premium of over 1.5 Million Aussie Dollars

As a favour we are assisting them to reduce this, I also get to go to the ballet free!

Has anyone ever been exposed to , been involved with or ever heard of injury management systems and/ or safety management systems set up specifically to target dancing musculo skeletal injuries

I am trying to put together a system that they can use to reduce the incidence of injureis

Is there a standard out there for how much dancing individuals should do ?
I plan to talk with them about:
Screening programmes
coaching competencies
equopment use (footwear, floors)
rehabilitation once injuries occur
How to get dancers to report their injuries?

How much physio coverage is provided out there for companies dancing

I have guidelines but would appreciate any help to assist in organizing these guys into a system to reduce injuries and manage their existing claims

I have just started so I am a little scant on the details at this stage

I will keep you all posted on developments

I would appreciate any input

Regards

david

Hi David and welcome to CriticalDance. we certainly will be interested to hear about how your scheme develops and the pitfalls and successes.

Dance UK is the leading organisation in this area over here and produce a number of publications on the "Healthy Dancer" theme. Here is the link to the relevant web page:

http://www.danceuk.org/hdp/

Birmingham Royal Ballet is seen as a trail-blazer in this area in the UK. Here is some information about their activity and contact details:

A dance administrator closely involved in this area once told me that Australia is also a leader in this field. So, if you haven't done so already, it would be worthwhile contacting AusDance:

Hope other contributors from the US and elsewhere can also provide some pointers.
