I am a vegan (abstain from all types of animal products) but would like to remain a dancer. I do jazz/modern ballet and was wondering if anyone knows where I can find leather and suede free dance shoes. I'd appreciate the help.
peacout!
------------------
I like canvas shoes and find ballet slippers are good for just about everything - I think there are canvas jazz shoes though.

Ahhh! Yes, you're absolutely correct, Grace. Easy to overlook the absolute bottom of one's feet. Image

I've just started dancing again after several years. I, too, am (almost)vegan now and was wondering the same thing. I did buy a pair of leather tap shoes because I couldn't find anything else, but my new ballet shoes are canvas (but with a suede split-sole). This is just my two cents, but if I were you, I certainly wouldn't stop dancing. Even our tires and the roads we drive on contain some animal products. I think it is more important to show the world that someone who strives to live a compassionate life can still be a healthy, strong, creative person. Your example will influence everyone you come in contact with in a very positive way, much more so than "preaching" and being annoying will do.
And, hopefully, we will get some vegan alternatives in dance shoes soon. I, for one, am going to start writing and e-mailing the shoe companies.
Good luck,
Khiara

Hello Khiara - welcome to the board - it's nice to see you again!!
I think your response is very well thought out - sometimes as much as we would like to change the world for the better - we also have to live in the world.

I am afraid that Dancewear suppliers tend to be quite slow in progress of that type and because there are only a few companies they tend to be able to set their own agendas.
But definitely write to them it would be interesting to hear their replies.
