'Ballet fever attracts avid amateurs to courses.' An article about non-pro classes run by Korea National Ballet.

quote:
On the fifth floor of the Opera House in the Seoul Arts Center last Thursday night, a rehearsal hall was full of energy with ballet trainees. At an instructor's command, the students showed the basic positions of ballet. If their postures looked awkward, the trainer corrected them individually.
Though this was a ballet class for non-professionals, the trainees, drenched with sweat, were fully devoted to the lesson as if each of them was a prima ballerina.

http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/SITE/data/html_dir/2001/02/12/200102120027.asp

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited February 13, 2001).]

Very interesting article Stuart. I was interested to read that they start the ballet class with a 20 minute warm-up and stretch before even getting to the barre.
And that the class is begun with a reverence - which is what we were discussing in another thread.
It always amazes me to see this old classic art form take root in so many diverse places and cultures.
