The warm up concentrates on connection and articulation, utilizing a variety of anatomically based information to prepare the body for easy, efficient movement. The remainder of class is spent dancing phrase material. Movement intention, clarity of initiation and developing a sense of dynamic range are some of the devices used to explore the idea of technique as a means of expression. Rebecca has recently returned to Melbourne after thirteen years in New York. She has choreographed, taught, directed and performed worldwide. <BR> /<BR> <B> Jo Lloyd - Contemporary Technique </B> <BR> Tues 10-12noon (Wk 1) Wed 10-12noon (Wk 2) 16 &24 Jan A contemporary technique class focussing on choreographed exercises. The class will allow individuals to explore ways of organizing their bodies in space. The class will start with simple arming sequences to develop an awareness of placement and articulation in preparation for more challenging and energetic phrases. Jo is a graduate from the VCA. She has worked with several choreographers and with Dance Works for the past three years. Jo also choreographs her own work and has taught widely. <BR> <BR> <B> Julia Robinson - Contemporary Technique</B> <BR> Wed 10-12noon (Wk 1) Tue 10-12noon (Wk 2) 17 & 23 Jan A contemporary technique class beginning with a floor warm up, combining some basic yoga and pilates exercises. The class will include exercises focussing on technique and bringing awareness to connections in the body. This will lead into a more complex and indiosynratic movement phrase that will be developed over the two classes. Julia studied at Rusden in 1998, at Danswerk plaats and the school for New Dance Development, Amsterdam in 1999. She has studied, taught and worked in both Melbourne and Amsterdam. <BR> <BR> <B> Tim Davey -The Rules of the Game (Choreographic Development Workshop) </B> <BR> Thurs 10-1pm 18 & 25 Jan <BR> <BR> The focus of this class will be on creating solo performance material utilising a range of improvised movement techniques. Participants will devise their own rules by which they will present and perform their own specific systems of movement. The solos will be stimulated by physiological memory and experience rather than aesthetic forms. Tim has performed, choreographed and taught in Australia, Germany, Taiwan and Malaysia.
