i personally sometimes pull socks over my flat ballet shoes during warm-up.

however, i notices many dancers wearing them throughout the whole class, and always in addition to their normal shows. why?? i mean, why wear the shoes at all when you're pulling socks over them?

one teacher also told me that wearing socks damages your feet because it somehow weakens the muscles

I don't see how wearing socks over the shoes would damage your feet. Wearing them to warm up a bit seems okay. But, I don't understand the necessity of wearing them for the entire class. It might be more of a fashion statement than anything else! We ask our students NOT to wear socks over their shoes because it polishes the marley and makes it a bit slippery. I suppose it depends on the type of dance floor. If the socks are baggy or ill-fitting, I'm not sure if the teacher could really see what is going on...
