A great piece in the SF Chronicle about a kid I used to work with. He's the second one I know who went into rowing. I'm so glad Brandon's doing well. He had a tough road in dance.

Cal men's crew coach Steve Gladstone has witnessed athletes of nearly every ilk make the transition to rowing over the years - cross-country skiers, swimmers, wrestlers, tight ends from the football team.
But Brandon Shald was a first.
"Never encountered a dancer before," Gladstone said.
Shald's path to his current place in the Bears' varsity-eight boat - preparing for this weekend's Pac-10 Championships at Lake Natoma in Sacramento - is not a tale of years of hard work and dedication to his sport. Instead, it was years of hard work and dedication to something else, followed by a willingness to say "Sure, why not?"
