After more than a few decades of teaching, I never thought I'd hear from a class that they'd *rather* work on technique than learn a dance for spring recital.

The advanced ballet class that I teach once a week at a competition studio, came to me -- after talking it over with their director -- that they feel they've made really good progress in class and would prefer to work on honing their technique than spending class time learning a dance for the school's spring recital.

I told them that this was fine with me and that I didn't *need* to choreograph yet another recital dance. I'm pleased they came up with this idea themselves and of their desire to work on technique.

Yet, you could have blown me over with a feather!

good question. I, too, would like to know.

Over here there are no competition studios, as far as I know.
But, most studios are nevertheless more hobby-oriented. (ie: once a week for one hour or so....
