Congrats to this dance program for sticking out for so long. The program like any other has strengths and weaknesses, but they've been around for a long time, so they must be doing something right. From the SF Chronicle.

Even though members of Gail Barton's Latin dance class at City College of San Francisco are taking their final exams, on this warm, sunny afternoon there is an air of easy conviviality -- the sense that anyone who walks through the studio door will be immediately accepted. But then that's the feeling that pervades all the dance classes at City College.

"So what, I'm not going to be a professional, but I can take class here with amazing teachers who tell us that we're all dancers, no matter who you are," says Suzanne Scott, a graphic artist who regularly takes a modern class with Luana. "Where else could you take 16 weeks of dance for $26? It's the best-kept secret in dance in the Bay Area."

After I retired from San Francisco Ballet in 1985, I attended City College during the mid to late 80s and participated in their Ballroom dance classes: West Coast Swing, Fox Trot, East Coast Swing, Rumba, Cha Cha...I had a blast!

I observed a ballroom class at City College a couple of years ago. The students were SO enthusiastic. They were obviously having a great time!
