For more than a decade, for thousands of fans, Christmas in the Bay Area has also meant Michael Smuin's "The Christmas Ballet." After Smuin's untimely death in April, you might have thought this was one holiday tradition we'd have to mourn this season. But the Smuin Ballet lives on under a newly named artistic director, Smuin's former right-hand-woman, Celia Fushille-Burke. And when you see the strength and glee of these 16 dancers, you can't be anything but grateful.
The show opened last weekend at Walnut Creek's Lesher Center for the Arts and continues over the next month in Mountain View, San Francisco and Carmel, affording plenty of opportunity to answer the perennial question: Are you a "Classical Christmas" or a "Cool Christmas" person?
