Gesel Mason

Yesterday evening, Gesel Mason from the USA presented two short performances in sharp contrast as they were concerned with different themes and expressed using different dance styles.

I just wanted to love her...

The first performance was a bit surreal visually, with impressive content – about love between two women and escape from man.

In a symbolic way Gesel Mason shows us how hard it is to find happiness in life. She will never get the purpose although she tries. She is strongly connected with his family, tradition and the past. The artist creates images of violation, pain and misfortune using her body. Suggestive movements of her arms, head and legs, hoarse moans from the dancer’s larynx, under harsh, white light results in an overwhelming and hysterical atmosphere on stage. During the actor’s pain-filled tussle we hear sounds from off stage – the voices telling the story.

Chopin vs R’N’B

The second presentation was a free demonstration of the dancer’s skills. They were shown in a witty manner, contrasting two dance styles: classical and contemporary. Referring to Chopin’ s music was interesting (especially in Poland), but the bored dancer can’t stand this classical music any more and starts to dance to hip hop music, which she performed to a high standard.
