There is a new Christmas show in London, 'Dick Whittington' and I was persuaded to go and see it on the very strong recommendation of an acquaintance. He has been struck off my Christmas card list!
It uses some interesting music including a bit of Benjamin Britten and other good tunes and occasionally interesting choreography by Gillian Lynne of 'Cats' fame. But it wastes one of the best ballet dancers in the country, Jayne Reagan, with only 5 minutes or so dancing. In addition, it has few laughs and goes on for the best part of 3 hours.
Not worth a special trip from the West Coast (or even the East Coast), in my view. Here are a couple of reviews from the London critics.
This Dick is slow Whitt-ed.
