By Aiden Fitzgerald

Frankie Avalon, who stars in the new production of ``Grease,'' may be a grandfather, but he's still a Teen-Angel. more

'Grease' not slick enough
By WENDELL BROCK for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

In the "Pajama Party" sequence of the Broadway musical "Grease," the girls of Rydell High School chug cheap wine out of the jug and eat Twinkies. When goody-goody Sandy gets hijacked to the bathroom for an ear piercing, she sees the blood and throws up.

Unless you are hopelessly devoted to nostalgia-tripping 1950s-era concoctions about guys and girls and cars and hamburgers, you may have the same response to the glossy Theater of the Stars production running at the Fox Theatre.

Infectious energy makes 'Grease' seem fresh again
By Joan Behrmann / Special to The Detroit News

Even at this moment, a Martian pop music scholar may be studying the phenomena of how a pleasant but basically undistinguished musical like “Grease” could entertain Earthlings into the third generation.

“Grease” may still be the word, but the version now charming those generations at the Masonic Temple is a slightly less risque, more family-friendly show than the musical that first bowed on Broadway in 1972.

Director, cast let Grease' congeal

By LINDA EISENSTEIN
Special to The Cleveland Plain Dealer
June 21, 2004

All of the visual aspects of the piece are appealing eye-candy, telling you that what you're seeing is an upbeat cartoon. But the overarching tone of the book and the acting is so shrill, vulgar, and downright mean-spirited that it's like watching "Lord of the Flies" with jitterbugging.

Theatre: Wellington Musical Theatre triumphs

By JOHN SMYTHE
The NZ National Business Review
August 27, 2004

The strength and depth of mostly amateur singing, dancing and acting talent on stage, the degree to which every performer in a cast of 35 owns their own performance and shares it with the audience while working impeccably as parts of a team, suggests Robertson brings rather special skills to his role.

Young audiences show Grease is still slick for a new generation
by JACK ZINK for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel

The creative team gives the revival an overall mildly sassy attitude, spiced by Flaten's energetic choreography that feeds into the story's romantic high school dreams. The style delivers a pleasant warm glow, as opposed to a full-bore parody.
