Do you know of rhythms, music, videos, people to talk to, or historical information about the Cuban music/dance and Flamenco music/dance connection(s)?

Hi, Rebekah. I don't know the answer of that one myself but I'm sure others here do. Maggie? jennifer golub?

The best place for Flamenco videos and other resources is a company in Virginia called Flamenco Connection. They have a mail-order catalog. There are other Flamenco websites that you should check out. Specifically Flamenco-world.com. Cuban dance? I love too! Check out this book: Salsiology - Afro Cuban Music and the Evolution of Salsa in New York City. Great book.

Rebekah, i notice THAT site also has a message board, where you could raise the same question, and get the different perspective of those respondents also....

jennifer, thanks for the response.
Unfortunately the book jennifer recommends, Salsiology : Afro-Cuban Music and the Evolution of Salsa in N.Y. City by Vernon Boggs, is out of print. Perhaps, your local library may have a copy.

I have a teacher who has been studying in Cuba - when she gets back from this last trip out of town I'll ask her about this. She's pretty well up on Cuban dance and some of the interesting lives these dances have lived.

Wow! I am overwhelmed by wonderful responses. Thank you all. I will look for the book, I know Flamenco Connection - they are great - good reminder to talk to them. I know the web site too, but as you can all probably tell by my seeming lack of response, I am not on the web very often. This is great. I will let you know what I find.
------------------
RBQ
