I saw a wonderful movie a few nights ago called "Songcatcher", which deals with a turn of the century woman musicologist/music professor who goes to Appalachia to document folk ballads. A GREAT movie--I highly recommend it!! Anyway, the neat "dance" segments in it show an early, Appalachian version of tap dancing, which I think is "clog dancing". The segment shows a "hoedown" where the backwoods people are dancing to a fiddle ensemble. Has anyone clog dancing or this movie?
