These songs and others from the Stewart catalog are interspersed in a Faustian story about an infatuated nerd who sells his soul to become more like his smooth-talking, priapic hero, Rod Stewart.

LONDON - The pop musical "back catalog" genre takes a sizable step backward with "Tonight's the Night," the new West End musical that plunders Rod Stewart (news)'s output to wearying effect.

"Tonight's the Night," which opened Friday at the Victoria Palace, doesn't have the production values of "We Will Rock You," which keeps time to the music of Queen. And it certainly possesses nothing like the innocence of the ABBA songfest, "Mamma Mia!"
