Abbey’s Shaughraun takes the Riverdance route to America By John Burns for The Times
THE creators of Riverdance are planning to take a hit Irish play on a worldwide tour, starting in America in 2006.
John McColgan, who has earned about €60m over the past decade from Riverdance, is in talks with the Abbey theatre about bringing The Shaughraun to Broadway and leading American cities.
Directors of the cash-strapped Irish national theatre are enthusiastic about McColgan’s plans, believing that the play can bring huge revenue back to Dublin from its international tour.
