An interview with a famous Kuchipudi dancer:
The uplifting face of dance
BY NIRMALA RAGHAVAN for The New Straits Times (Malaysia)

SHE looks every inch the dancer that she is, with large, attractive eyes, soulful but not showy.
Dr Avanthi Meduri began her training in music and dance when she was barely three and a half years old. She was fortunate to have had the support and encouragement of her mother (also a dancer), grandmother and grand-uncle. Her father was a flutist. By nine, she had learnt the whole margam (repertoire). She was also a successful child star in Tamil and Telugu films.
Avanthi is in Kuala Lumpur this month as curator of the Photo-Exhibition titled, "Re-presenting Rukmini Devi Arundale," presented by Sutra Dance Theatre in collaboration with the High Commission of India.
click for more
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited March 19, 2002).]
