Unless you came of age in the 1960s or earlier, the sum total of your exposure to folk dancing probably began and ended with hokey-pokey lessons in kindergarten. No wonder you didn't stick with it. In an effort to reintroduce the joys of folk dancing to Baby Boomers and their off spring, Berkeley Folk Dancers, a club that started in 1941, kicks off a five-week series of beginning folk dance lessons Friday night.

"There's no stress here," said Al George, the septuagenarian disc jockey and longtime Berkeley folk dancer, at the organization's community outreach open house on Friday. "Tango Paquito, honey," interrupted his wife, Claire, 73, who had rushed back from folk dance camp in Stockton just in time to help teach the tango and other dances to the assembled group of a few dozen veterans and curious newcomers.
