Cirque du Soleil is bringing downsized show to Bradley
It's Quebec-based group's first touring production for arenas
by DAMIEN JAQUES for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Cirque has traditionally performed in its own specially designed tents or in spaces constructed for it. "Delirium" is the first show created for short runs to be presented in a large number of different venues. It is subsequently smaller and different from the customary productions.

Placing a greater emphasis on music than other Cirque shows, "Delirium" features remixed scores from other company productions played on stage by musicians. Lyrics have been added for the first time.

Transcendental Art
by FRANK RIZZO for the Hartford Courant

It is no surprise that Lemieux and Pilon are sought after for their ability to combine artistry with techno know-how.

Pilon acknowledges that Disney approached the team in the past, but so far they have resisted temptations to turn their art into other people's projects and characters.

Cirque's changes cost charm
by DAMIEN JAQUES for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The development of "Delirium" began with 21 "moments" culled from the catalog of original music written for other Cirque shows. The chosen music was remixed by Quebec producer, composer and arranger Francis Collard, who placed a new emphasis on percussion and a heavily amplified, pulsing beat.

Actual lyrics were written for the music. Vocalizations for Cirque shows have previously been wordless sounds.

Cirque has traditionally kept its live musicians in the wings, but they frequently move to center stage in "Delirium," sometimes striking rock star poses. They are joined by 18 dancers, eight circus-style performers, four people who portray characters and six singers.
