Cirque's changes cost charm
by DAMIEN JAQUES for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
The development of "Delirium" began with 21 "moments" culled from the catalog of original music written for other Cirque shows. The chosen music was remixed by Quebec producer, composer and arranger Francis Collard, who placed a new emphasis on percussion and a heavily amplified, pulsing beat.
Actual lyrics were written for the music. Vocalizations for Cirque shows have previously been wordless sounds.
Cirque has traditionally kept its live musicians in the wings, but they frequently move to center stage in "Delirium," sometimes striking rock star poses. They are joined by 18 dancers, eight circus-style performers, four people who portray characters and six singers.
