INTEREST IN PASTIME SURGING AFTER TV SHOW

The ballroom dancing craze is coming to Palo Alto.

On April 8, the Stanford Ballroom Dance Team will host the seventh annual Cardinal Classic, a ballroom dance competition featuring dancers from schools throughout California and an exhibition by two of the performers from ABC's hit television series, ``Dancing with the Stars.''

Organizers expect the all-day event will be attended by dancers from Bay Area studios and universities as well as from schools such as the University of California-San Diego and New Mexico State University. The teams will compete in standard dances like the waltz and fox trot and Latin styles such as the rumba and salsa.
