Could one of our readers of the British persuasion translate this into American?

But of course!

People in the north of England have a very distinct regional accent with very curious vowel sounds and the word up is pronounced as oop up there. The reviewer is therefore reminding the cast that natives of Margaret Thatchers home town of Grantham, which is in the east Midlands, have a very different accent from Northerners.

I am of course a Londoner from the 'sarf'.
