Theater Guild strikes back with 'Star Wars' spoof
Sarah H. Wright, MIT News Office

Long ago and far away in Modesto, Calif., two young musical theater fans shared a vision: "Star Wars" with tap-dancing Storm Troopers! Ewoks with chirpy voices raised in song!

The two fans, MIT Theater Guild (MTG) members Rogue Shindler and Jeff Suess, wrote and wrote, grafting snappy Star Wars lyrics onto tunes from such Broadway hits as "Cats," "West Side Story," "Les Miserables" and "Phantom of the Opera."

My Fair Leia? MIT troupe turns epic into a musical
Devra First, Boston Globe

Luke Skywalker needs a tissue. His lip is bleeding after an overzealous kiss from Princess Leia. The stormtroopers have the giggles. And Han Solo can't seem to remember his lines. But soon, the chaotic rehearsal underway on the fourth floor of MIT's student center will coalesce into ''Star Wars Trilogy: Musical Edition." Not only does the show adapt George Lucas's three earliest ''Star Wars" films for the stage, it does so in song, with full orchestration.

An example of the lyrics:

Quote:
Death Star Assault Medley

A squadron of six X-wings leads the big assault
With a dozen to nine Y-wings close behind
When you drive them back attack,
there will be a lot of action,
The best the Empire can find

Tune: "76 Trombones"
From: "Music Man"

Does anyone else remember this really amazingly cheesy televised performance in which Galina and Valery Panov danced to the theme from Star Wars with John Williams conducting behind them?
