An article by Joseph Carman about the the latest work, 'Hi! Everybody', by modern choreographer, Tere O'Connor, who was commisssioned by Baryshnikov to make a work for White Oaks. The current piece, about issues like the disenfranchisement of the elderly and the debate over gay marriages includes spoken text as well as dance, which is probably the trickiest combination of forms to pull off. I recently saw a modern work, 'Without Trace', which managed this combination well, but I have seen pieces where spoken text or poetry detracted so much that you wanted to cover your ears.
