AXIS Dance Company is a non-profit modern dance company comprised of <BR>dancers with and without physical disabilities. Founded in 1987 in<BR>Oakland, CA, the company has grown to become an internationally known<BR>resource for physically integrated dance and is one of a handful of<BR>companies setting a standard for professionalism in this emerging field<BR>of dance. Our current repertory includes work by Bill T Jones, Joe<BR>Goode, Joanna Haigood, Sonya Delwaide, and AXIS choreographers, and in<BR>the near future, Stephen Petronio. Through our extensive community<BR>outreach and education programs Dance Access and Dance Access/KIDS, we<BR>also teach dance to all ages and abilities and educate about<BR>collaboration and disability. Described as a "visual and physical<BR>discovery, creating fascinating works of movement art,” AXIS offers<BR>audiences a unique experience in dance. AXIS has been presented in major<BR>theaters in regions including the Bay Area, Boston, Minneapolis,<BR>Atlanta, New York, Germany and Siberia. AXIS has received many<BR>prestigious arts grants and awards from local and national foundations<BR>and was nominated for Isadora Duncan Dance Awards in 1996 and 1998.<BR> AXIS has an annual budget of $200,000, a staff of seven dancers, and a<BR>consistent track record of support from the National Endowment for the<BR>Arts, the California Arts Council, and the Oakland Arts Commission, and<BR>local and national foundations. The Company Manager is the<BR>organization’s primary administrative director, responsible for working<BR>with the Co-Artistic Directors, Program Director, and Board of Directors<BR>to run and maintain a busy successful small dance company.<P><BR>Primary Responsibilities Include:<P><BR>- Oversee all aspects of office management; act as the main contact<BR>person for the company, monitoring voicemail, email, and post; maintain<BR>the company database.<P><BR>- Assist in the production and mailing of grant proposals and<BR>fundraising letters; assist in tracking donations.<P><BR>- Assist in the implementation of booking plan, maintainence and<BR>expansion of booking contacts.<P><BR>- Oversee touring administration such as travel, accomodation, etc.<P><BR>- Generate and distribute PR and other materials.<P><BR>- Work cooperatively with Co-Artistic Directors, Program Director and<BR>administrative assistants. <P><BR>Hours and Compensation: Part-time, some flexible hours. 30 hrs/week at<BR>$20/hr.<BR> <BR>Qualifications: Previous administrative experience, preferably with the<BR>arts. Computer skills, preferably Mac (Word, Claris, database). Strong<BR>verbal and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills<BR>and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; the ability<BR>to work both independently and as part of a team; an interest in<BR>contemporary performance and the arts.
