The only place that really captured me was when one of the performers holds on to a bar suspended by a cord and twists and spins silently in front of a black and white video of grass blowing behind him.
i just became aware of this site this week and saw this little review.

thanks marie i appreciate it.
that piece is called "spin/hayhook" and i choreographed and perform it in Elizabeth's shows.

and yes, the Moore theater was VERY cold. we were in nothing but unitards and could see our breath as we performed and the audience sat in their parkas to watch the show.
I hope that theater in Seattle has done something about it's heating system.

And since that show the cheesy letters have been done away with, music has been added(live dj) and six new pieces have been made... Still in lycra though, but new designed ones - much sportier - silver/black for the first act and red/blue for the second act.

A new way to harness the energy of dancers

By Victoria Looseleaf
Special to The LA Times

Elizabeth Streb calls it "camouflaging gravity." It's one of the moves that Streb's extremely physical dance company will uncork at UCLA's Royce Hall this weekend. One key is a custom-made harness system, designed by the Espana brothers, of "extreme circus" fame. It consists of a black rubber harness with two "waistpoints" where 10 bungee strands attach via swiveling aluminum carabiners. The bungees, in turn, attach to a truss that moves. more

Quantum Leaps
by DEBORAH JOWITT for the Village Voice

Gloved and sneakered, Terry Dean Bartlett — the group's associate artistic director — walks inside the wheel to set it turning, grabs a strut, swings out, rides the outer rim down, drops off, and swings back on running. Soon seven others are vaulting on and off, riding underneath, and performing moves with names like "Hercules," "stack-up," and "maple syrup." Suddenly, those inside the wheel walk facing one way, while on top of it, Bartlett strides facing the other way. Revolution is hair-raising entertainment. It makes centripetal force visible and highlights theories of gravity more complex than Newton's up-down one.

In Elizabeth Streb’s ‘Streb vs. Gravity,’ One Side Takes a Fall
by JOHN ROCKWELL for the New York Times

Elizabeth Streb has been a leader in the combination of gymnastics, acrobatics, athletics and dance. “Streb vs. Gravity” contains pieces that have been presented in complete form or in progress at her “Streb Slams,” held in her workshop space, the Streb Lab for Action Mechanics, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This big show is clearly designed to tour, to take the last few years of experimentation out onto the road and make some money.

"Going To Extremes

With Elizabeth Streb and Terry Dean Bartlett

BY EVA YAA ASANTEWAA

“I like it because you can get hurt doing it,” says Elizabeth Streb, a remark that nearly makes me drop my pen. She’s talking about the daredevil movement—a willful collision of dance, aerial stunt work, and extreme sports—that she devises for her world-renowned company, STREB Extreme Action. The troupe will make its Lincoln Center Festival debut on July 12 at LaGuardia Drama Theater, presenting “STREB vs. GRAVITY,” a new commission that promises to shake the Upper West Side to its bedrock."...

Streb Bounces Bodies at Lincoln Center, Aussies Dance Stories
July 13 (Bloomberg) -- Last time I saw Elizabeth Streb, years ago, she had her dancers throwing themselves at walls. One of them was slightly injured at that performance, and I never went back.
It seemed to me that, unlike high-caliber circus aerialists, acrobats or virtuoso classical dancers, Streb's crew was deliberately courting a bad outcome.
Now that Streb is big time -- winning high-end awards, part of the prestigious Lincoln Center Festival -- she bills herself as an Action Architect and only secondarily as a choreographer. Fair enough; her current show, ``Streb vs. Gravity,'' at the LaGuardia Drama Theater this weekend, has very little to do with dancing.

Streb vs Gravity - LaGuardia Drama Theater New York
by HILARY OSTLERE for the Financial Times

Each of these action events bear titles such as "Orbit", "Crash", "Ricochet", "SlipAway", "Gauntlet", "Spin" and "Tip" and tend to go on for too long. More exciting, a slack tightrope may be an oxymoron but somehow this variation of a high-wire act did have additional frisson, ...
