The londondance chat-room with Akram khan was fascinating, which is perhaps unsurprising given that he is one of the most innovative and talented dance artists around. The transcript is now available:
Quote:
Victoria Innes: Who and what are your biggest influences?
AK: I divide my influences into 2 sections - one section is more for the older generation and the other is for my generation and I think the two generations say things differently but they both have relevance and integrity. Pina Bausch, Peter Brooke, William Forsythe, Trisha Brown, DV8….
From artists that have been coming out this decade there are some fantastic artists like Gregory Maquoma from South Africa and Emio Greco from Italy, Sidi Larbi from Belgium, Robert Le Page from Canada. And quite a few film makers. Of course Peter Greenaway, Wng Ka Wai, Satyajit Ray and finally, Meera Nair.
