Over the past few years thay have been pleasing audiences and critics with Alston's thoughtful and tender work and the quality of their dancers.
PRESS RELEASE
The World Premiere of Richard Alston¹s TREMOR at Cambridge Arts Theatre Friday 13 October 2000
Richard Alston continues to make dances which speak directly and with passion about the richness of movement and its power to move and elate. On Friday 13 October, his company of ten dancers will give the World Premiere of his latest work, TREMOR, at Cambridge Arts Theatre.
TREMOR is danced to Shostakovich¹s third String Quartet, played live by stringfactory. Although TREMOR¹s opening is carefree, flowing lightly with Russian folk melody, the music starts to dig progressively deeper, touching on a darker side of the Russian soul. This is music casting a nervous eye over its shoulder, shivering with a certain unease.
Autumn 2000 sees three new dancers join Richard Alston Dance Company: Frederick Gehrig, Ellen Kane and Pamela Leung.
The Company¹s Autumn tour also includes visits to Horsham, High Wycombe, Manchester, Brecon, Malvern and Edinburgh. Full listings information is attached.
ends
Press contact: please call Sue Lancashire on 020 7387 0324.
2 August 2000
RICHARD ALSTON DANCE COMPANY
Autumn 2000 Listings
Friday 13 & Saturday 14 October at 7.45pm CAMBRIDGE Arts Theatre, 6 St Edward¹s Passage, Cambridge CB2 3PJ Box Office: 01223 503333 Programme: Waltzes in Disorder, Tremor (World Premiere), Roughcut
Thursday 19 & Friday 20 October at 8pm HORSHAM Arts Centre, North Street, Horsham RH12 1RL Box Office: 01403 268689 Programme: Waltzes in Disorder, Tremor, Roughcut
Tuesday 24 October at 8pm WYCOMBE Swan, St Mary Street, High Wycombe HP11 2XE Box Office: 01494 512000 Programme: Waltzes in Disorder, Tremor, The Signal of a Shake
Friday 27 & Saturday 28 October at 7.30pm MANCHESTER The Lowry, Pier 8, Salford Quays, Manchester M5 2AZ Box Office: 0161 876 2000 Programme: The Signal of a Shake, Tremor, Roughcut
Friday 3 November at 7.45pm BRECON Theatr Brycheiniog, Canal Wharf, Brecon LD3 7EW Box Office: 01874 611622 Programme: Waltzes in Disorder, Tremor, The Signal of a Shake
Thursday 16 & Friday 17 November at 7.30pm MALVERN Festival Theatres, Grange Rd, Malvern WR14 3HB Box Office: 01684 892277 Programme: Waltzes in Disorder, Slow Airs Almost All, The Signal of a Shake
Friday 24 November at 7.30pm EDINBURGH Festival Theatre, 13 - 29 Nicolson Street, Edinburgh EH8 9FT Box Office: 0131 529 6000 Programme: Waltzes in Disorder, Slow Airs Almost All, The Signal of a Shake

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited August 02, 2000).]
