Image
Siobhan (Sue) Davies opens a new work to great acclaim from the first of the London critics to see it. She has a very high reputation amongst the UK dance community and this second full length work seems likely to take her reputation even higher. Ismene Brown compares Bejart and Davies:

quote:
DANCE is a very broad church, with Maurice Béjart at one end and Siobhan Davies at the other. Spectacular, bombastic sentiment from the Frenchman's Ballet for Life, and reticent, poetic, exact humanity from the Englishwoman's Of oil and water. To see them on consecutive nights is probably a contrast too great for sane judgment, but it felt like going from the worst ballet in the world to the finest.

John Percival's review

Ismene Brown's review

Clement Crisp admires 'Of Oil and Water', and pleads for Davies to get the resources she deserves.

Clement Crisp's review
