Choreographer/Artistic Director Regina Klenjoski brings her dance company to the Ford Amphitheatre on Friday August 6. Long an established company in Torrance, this is its debut at the Ford. The program will include the World Premieres of two new pieces, “A Lullaby for Cristian” and “Streetscapes,” as well as a signature work of the company, “Love Lies Waiting.”

In her first solo performance in California, Ms. Klenjoski dances “A Lullaby for Cristian ,” inspired by her own experiences as the new mother of a son. The dancer paints an intimate portrait of her transition from the roles of artist and wife to mother. Composer Mark Fitchett plays his original music on solo cello in accompaniment.

The other debuting piece is “Streetscapes,” performed by the entire company to an original sound score by Drew Schnurr. It’s an abstract commentary about how our lives intersect, collide and merge within a bustling society.

Of “Love Lies Waiting,” Klenjoski says, “[It’s] a work about the human condition and our need for connection as we struggle to recognize the importance of intimacy in our lives…[It] tells the story of one individual’s journey from a defiant state of aloneness to a newfound sense of community.” One can be so fixated on finding the perfect soul-mate that one misses the opportunities for love that exist all around. “Love Lies Waiting” premiered in Torrance in 2003. Reviewer Joseph Sirota, writing for Easy Reader, stated “Each dance chapter radiates its core beauty, power and poignancy…More than dance, this is wordless, timeless, cathartic fable telling…” “Love Lies Waiting” received three 2003 Lester Horton Award nominations, including outstanding achievement in choreography and music for dance. Mark Fitchett’s original score for “Love Lies Waiting” will be performed live by a 12-piece orchestra.

To purchase tickets go to or call 323-461-3673. $25 for adults, $12 for students and children under 12.

Thank you, rkdance. I don't see the City listed. I am assuming this takes place somewhere in the US; sounds like maybe LA?
