My pleasure, grace. I should have said that I am going to the performance tomorrow.

This one night tribute to Jeremy James was a fine occasion with a variety of dancers performing his work. Another aspect that came across was the strong relationships he had forged with so many people on the UK dance scene.
The highlight for me was the solo with James filmed at The Place in 1993. This showed that he was a stunning dancer and, as is often the case with distinctive modern dancer/choregraphers in the UK, he brought his own work to life in a unique way. Having said that, he worked with some of the finest dancers in the UK and on the night, in the midst of great performances all round, Paul Old, Tammy Arjona and Raphael Bonachela and Libby Old of Rambert in particular captured the quirky magic of his choreography.
As one or two of the reviewers say, the only caveat is the fact that he had reached a stage in his career when he needed to extend his dance vocabulary. The proceeds for the evening will go to a fund, with working title, 'The Jeremy James playtime award', so that outstanding choreographers can have a period off the treadmill of producing new work, to think about where they go next.
Here are the London critics on the evening. I wonder if he ever had 4 reviews on one day in the national dailies when he was alive?

'Splendid homage to a too-short career.' Clement Crisp's review
'Tribute to a miracle man of dance.' Judith Mackrell's review
'Jeremy James: The Last Fish Finger.' The Times review
'In life, fish fingers, in death, encomia.'
Ismene Brown's review
