The website for the 2000-01 season for the Barclay theater in Irvine is finally up. For dance fans, they offer:
The 2000-2001 Contemporary Dance Series
Each of the four companies in the series has been selected as a celebrated proponent of a particular branch in the evolution of contemporary dance. One of the centerpieces of our 10th Anniversary Season, we think the series will be "smashing!"
Elizabeth Streb and her company, known for its boundary-stretching definition of dance movement, open the series with the West Coast premiere of a new work entitled ActionHeroes. The ever-popular Pilobolus is always an eye-popping spectacle, fusing dance with vivid theatrical imagery. Making a rare U.S. appearance, Berlin’s Sasha Waltz and dancers represent the internationalist view. Making its first appearance at the Barclay, Garth Fagan Dance forges ballet techniques and modern dance vocabulary into a truly unique movement language. Mr. Fagan is also the Tony-Award winning choreographer of the smash Broadway musical The Lion King, which will open in Los Angeles this fall for an extended engagement.
The Barclay website
