Dance Umbrella 2013
The 35th year of Dance Umbrella, London's annual dance-fest of work from around the globe will open on Thursday October 3, running to Sunday October 20.
Outgoing festival director Betsy Gregory is continuing last year's more concentrated format, with a programme designed around specific geographical areas including King’s Cross and Stratford. As usual, there will be a plethora of theatrical performances, outdoor events, talks, photo exhibitions, installations and dance happenings, with most events presented in intimate settings.
Highlights of Dance Umbrella 2013 include performances by Trisha Brown Dance Company, part of its world tour of proscenium works before the Company changes shape in 2015. Performed up-close in the Platform Theatre at Central Saint Martins, the programme will feature classics alongside Brown’s most recent and final work. Stratford Circus showcases South African choreographer Robyn Orlin, with no doubt a typically raucous, entertaining but thought-provoking work.
The 2013 festival will feature more free events than ever previously, including Dog Kennel Hill Project’s "TUG" spectacle on Regent’s Canal and the return of "TooMortal" by Shobana Jeyasingh Dance at St Pancras Church on Euston Road.
The full Dance Umbrella 2013 programme will be announced on 1 July.
