ChoreoFest: Diverse dance styles work to great effect
By Sasha Vasilyuk, STAFF WRITER
NORMALLY, Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco provide a place of repose for wired dwellers of the Financial District. Yet this week the gardens are no longer just a place for a quiet lunch on the green. They are a stage for diverse performers of ChoreoFest, a week-long dance celebration that is part of the five-month-long Yerba Buena Gardens Festival.
Although ChoreoFest, which runs every day until Saturday, is showcasing the dancing styles of 15 choreographers, it is not about enjoying each individually. Instead, the point of the festival is to take the diverse vocabularies of hip-hop or tap or contemporary and tie them together through the space of the garden.
