I've been doing ballet intensives since i could remember. But now the realization of my career and the conclusion of my high school years closing in on me, i want to try something new.

I could name every ballet summer intensive and fellowship program out there, but i haven't any idea of any modern/contemporary ones!

Can anyone suggest any for me?

Hi Kimmi,

I always think it is a good idea to identify a choroegrapher that really resonates with you, and check out what their studio has in the summer. Most of the major studios in NYC have some sort of summer program - i.e. Merce Cunningham, Alvin Ailey, etc.

Ideally, how long of a program would you be looking for?

I imagine there is a comprehensive list of intensives somewhere. Perhaps DanceUSA has put something out? It also sounds like something Dance Magazine would do.

Hi Kimmi- check out the Bates Summer Dance Festival and the American Dance Festival at Duke. Both are great opportunities to learn about various styles of modern dance and take classes with some of the best!

So two dancers walked into a barre...
