Hmm...not sure I'veever seen NDT on pointe. Headline writers grrr....
Dutch dance troupe prove their pointe
The experimental dance company NDT2 shows its maturity in a polished new programme, writes Mark Fisher for The Sunday Times
If sequels are never as good as the original, nobody told Nederlands Dans Theater. Just over a quarter of a century ago, the Hague-based company launched an offshoot, NDT2, as a training ground for younger dancers. The idea was to cultivate a pool of performers ready to feed into the main company when they matured.
But far from being a poor man’s version of the real thing, NDT2 flourished into a globally acclaimed company in its own right. Boasting 16 dancers between the ages of 17 and 22, the company combines the vigour of youth with the high choreographic standards for which the original ensemble is famed.
By JACKIE MCGLONE for Scotland on Sunday
SIX O'CLOCK, says the body on the floor - a young man lies flat on his back, his right leg points north, his left leg south. You could use him instead of a spirit level next time you're tiling, because he is a perfect plumb-line. Surely he's made of rubber and elastic, rather than skin and bone, muscles and sinews.
But look around and you'll see several dozen similarly positioned men and women. Some are sitting up and effortlessly doing the splits, while others bend over backwards, turning their bodies into hoops and perfect concentric circles.

EDINBURGH FESTIVAL THEATRE
by KELLY APTER for the Scotsman
THEORETICALLY, Nederlands Dans Theater 2 is no more than a training ground. Young dancers join NDT2 in the hope of eventually entering NDT1, arguably one of the world's finest modern dance companies.

Sleepless/Simple Things/Shutters Shut/Skew-Whiff
By John Highfield for The Stage
A welcome return for Nederlands Dans Theater 2, that excellent company which demonstrates with this lively and hugely entertaining programme that contemporary dance can be both accessible and fun.
The evening begins with Jiri Kylian’s Sleepless, a piece for six dancers, a remarkable blend of body parts, merging in and out of a wall - a clever piece of business - in an intriguing celebration of the human form.

NDT2 remains one of the most exciting dance companies in the world. Forget the "2", this is a major company in its own right. The combination of youth and brilliance is intoxicating and the reaction from a half-full Churchill Theatre certainly backed that up. Particularly satisfying was Lightfoot and Leon's "Postscript".
