There is a new two-part documentary on the school and company which is being shown on DR, the main Danish TV channel.

You watch the first part online here: http://www.dr.dk/nu/player/#/dr1-dokumentaren/5920

It is mostly in Danish (there is some English), but easy to follow.

This part follows youngsters auditioning for the school, kids at the school and the examination process. The latter focuses on two 9th years students, Magnus and Johanne for whom this will be the final exam. They will either be asked to return as aspirants or will have to pursue their dreams elsewhere. The filming was done in 2010, so you can find out who was asked to be an aspirant by looking at the company website.

It's worth a look, particular if you are going to see the company on the US tour, as many of these students and now-aspirants will undoubtedly be dancing on the tour. I recognize many of the students from my years of visiting the company, during which I had the opportunity to watch the auditions.

The second part of the documentary is now up on the DR website, and it is well worth watching. Again, much of it is in Danish, but Caroline Cavallo does all her interviews in English and the glimpses of the dancing and backstage are fabulous even if you can't understand the dialogue.

It's a fascinating look at the RDB - no ballet company in the US would ever get this kind of prime time coverage (8pm!) on a major channel. There has been active discussion regarding the documentaries on the DR website, with Alban Lendorf, Nikolaj Hubbe and the two students from Part 1 answering questions and providing their thoughts.
