Mature choreographers - modern ballets
The Royal Danish Ballet presents it's first staging of a ballet by the innovative, provocative American choreographer Twyla Tharp. In The Fugue, music has been replaced by the steps, pulse and sheer presence of the dancers. The floor of the stage has been especially electrically adapted so that the dancers' bodies can set the rhytm and their feet can set the beat. The dance itself tells the tale, so to speak. There are no filters, no frills.
The Fugue is accompanied by a performance of Le Bras de Mer by the up-and-coming Czech choreographer Petr Zuska, whose dynamic, graceful ballets have made his name known throughout Europe. Finally, there is the new production of a work by Dutch choreographer Nils Christe, who created Quartet 1 for the Royal Danish Ballet.
