Ballet boasts a polished "Showcase"

The "Nouveau Showcase," Mills' first production as artistic director, has a reputation for variety and texture. This year's choreographers include Chung-fu Chang (Colorado State University), Hannah Kahn (Hannah Kahn Dance), Kathryn Elliott (Third Law Dance), Fleming Lomax (Ballet Nouveau Colorado), Julia Wilkinson Manley (Ballet Nouveau Colorado), Mark Carlson (International Ballet School) and Vicki Psihoyos (formerly of New York City Ballet).

"Nouveau" ballet is both big and intimate

"Waltz One," a world premiere by former New York City Ballet dancer Viki Psihoyos, is the most classical of the offerings and a fitting opening for the showcase. The ensemble piece pairs Tchaikovsky with impressively balletic moves such as Lance Hardin's crowd-pleasing entrechat toward the end of the piece.

Talented Ballet Nouveau grows by leaps, bounds

Ignore the trappings - this is a bright, talented, energetic company whose ranks (11 women, four men) include some first-rate dancers and, as was apparent on Friday, some promising choreographers.
