A charming and very professional performance of the Nutcracker takes place this weekend at the Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse in New York City. The "Yorkville Nutcracker," choreographed by Francis Patrelle, takes the Nutcracker story and sets it in Gracie Mansion (they mayor's house) and Central Park of the New York City of the 1900s.
It features Karen Lynch (formerly of PNB), Donald Williams (formerly of Dance Theater of Harlem), Francois Perron, and Heather Hawk (both former NYCB). The other roles are filled by talented students from Barnard College and Ballet Academy East. It's quite a nice show.
Performances are Friday at 7, Saturday at 1 and 7, and Sunday at 1 and 6. Tickets are $35 each, available through the Kaye Theater box office, 212-772-4448. The Kaye Theater is at Hunter College, on E. 68th Street between
Park and Lexington.
