A preview from the NY Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/04/arts/ ... O_BRF.html

Among the highlights of the upcoming winter season will be, of course, the Nutcracker, but also world premiere by Douglas Lees, Alexei Miroshnichenko and Melissa Barak, the renaming of the NYS Theatre and the inaguration of the Rudolf Nureyev Fund for Emerging Choreographers, made possible by a $500,000 matching grant from the Nureyev Foundation.

Alistair Macaulay reviews opening night:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/27/arts/ ... 1&ref=arts

I'm not sure whether it was his gaff or something introduced by careless editing, but "Duke!" was actually a series of three separate ballets, each by a different choreographer. "Blossom Got Kissed" was the part that Susan Stroman choreographed.

Casting for the first week of the season with two sets of lead role debuts in Coppelia.

Interesting that Millepied is not as yet scheduled to dance Franz - not sure whether they are purposefully trying to give younger dancers experience in the role or whether Millepied is backing off a bit on physically demanding roles given his injury history and the time he's been taking away from dancing for choreographic adventures. I still remember watching (what I think was his debut) Millepied dancing opposite Alexandara Ansanelli the day she was promoted to principal (and debuted in the role). I've never seen more energy from a lead ballerina, nor been more afraid that a Swanhilda's sheer adreniline rush would cause her to take out her Franz during the lifts in the wedding pas deux.

This week includes a bunch of guest artists - I believe that the evening marks a SAB anniversary. It would help to provide first initials for the guests, but I think they are Lucien Postelwaite (PNB), Amy Watson (RDB), Paloma Herrera (ABT), Misa Kuranaga (Boston Ballet), Julie Diana (PAB), ? Patricia Delgado (MCB), Margaret Severin-Hansen (Carolina Ballet). Anyone know who D. Smith is? [edited to add - Damian Smith, SFB]

In other news, there will be 50 Orchestra seats at each performance available for $25 each. Those seats will be available each Monday for that week's performance and sold via phone or in person. Great opportunity to get nearly 75% off a ticket (they are normally $90).

In the New York Observer, Robert Gottlieb writes about NYCB's revival of "Coppelia." (Scroll down past the Ballet Trocadero section.)

In the New York Times, Alastair Macaulay reviews a quadruple bill of works by four very different choreographers (Ratmansky, Balanchine, Taylor-Corbett and Martins):
