quote:
It was a study in contrasts: "The Mighty Casey," a ballet steeped in American traditions vs. "7th Heaven," a contemporary ballet that exploded its traditional base, Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. But there they were, back to back, on last night's Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre program at the Benedum Center.

Read more of this review from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre get a strong review in the Dallas Daily News for their 'Pittsburgh Choreographers' programme featuring the work of two native Pittsburghians, Paul Taylor and Glen Tetley. If its something in the water can we mount a research project double-quick please?
PBT review
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited May 12, 2001).]

From the Los Angeles Times:
A Pre-Holiday Vision of 'Nutcracker'
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre delivers tasty Balanchine; Mauceri conducts an explosive 1812 Overture.
By LEWIS SEGAL, Times Dance Critic

quote:
Although plans for a pickup company to present the George Balanchine "Nutcracker" at the Universal Amphitheatre in December have fallen through, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre made partial amends by dancing Act 2 of the Balanchine version on Friday at the Hollywood Bowl.
In the latest edition of the Bowl's annual "Tchaikovsky Spectacular," local children played angels and candy canes in the Pittsburgh production, performing on the forestage while John Mauceri conducted the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra directly behind them.
Even under these conditions, with no scenery and with the usual distractions of an outdoor performance, the choreography displayed the brilliance, detail and unerring musicality that's missing in nearly all of the dozens of "Nutcracker" productions on local stages each year.
