I personally appreciate the contributions Ben has made to the Ballet.'' ``I am grateful to our audiences and have enjoyed working with David Mallette, the staff, the Board, and especially with our extremely talented dancers for the past three seasons,'' said Mr. Houk. ``Although we have decided to end my role as artistic director, my commitment has always been the same as the Company's -- to put the very finest work on stage. I wish the best to everyone at the Ballet and good fortune for its future.''<P>Mr. Houk will remain through the end of the 2000-2001 season in May in an advisory capacity. This is not good news. Ben is a friend of mine of long standing. This shows signs of a board that is panting after a "name" (e.g., Bruce Marks). Their treatment of Ben (and Debbie Hadley, who left last May) seems rather lacking in class.
