'Corps choreography: Boston Ballet surveys its creative talent Dance/by Theodore Bale'

quote:
``Beyond Boundaries,'' presented tonight and tomorrow night in the Boston Ballet studios at 19 Clarendon St., will feature new choreography from the company's own ranks. It's a rare opportunity to see some of the city's finest dancers presenting original work.
Last autumn, Boston Ballet artistic director designate Maina Gielgud told a reporter at The Dance Insider that she hopes to cultivate choreographers from within the company, something she was noted for during her term at the Australian Ballet. Tonight's program could be considered an audition of sorts for those emerging choreographers.

http://www.bostonherald.com/entertainment/arts_culture/danc02162001.htm

i feel constrained to mention, however, that the article makes it sound as though the presentation were a recent innovation by the incoming director for the purpose of discovering choreographic talent, when in fact these offerings by company members have been presented for years in exactly this fashion.
