I am saddened to read that Pacific Northwest Ballet Principal Dancer Christophe Maraval will be retiring at the end of the 2006-07 season to take a full-time teaching position in Montreal. Here is the press release from PNB:

PNB Release

At an event last week, someone was talking to me about what an unexpected pleasure it was to have Christophe teaching her Pilates class at PNB School. We'll miss him here!

I took what turned out to be Christophe's last class this Saturday morning. I think he'll make a great teacher: he's patient, gives good corrections, adds lots of positive energy to the class, and makes you want to work hard. How lucky are the adults who have had him at PNB all these months! He also has some of the most beautiful feet I've seen, man or woman.

And, last night, was his farewell performance, in a duet called "Adieu" choreographed by Peter Boal on him and Louise Nadeau. It was an appropriate piece for the occasion. And it was heartwarming to see how much the Seattle audience loves him.
