Tutus and Testosterone: Men Behaving Balletically
by ROSLYN SULCAS for the New York Times

Sometimes a performance is so bad as to be curiously compelling. Such was the experience of this company, formed in 1992 by Valery Mikhailovsky, a former dancer with the Boris Eifman company. Exactly why Mr. Mikhailovsky thought the world needed another company of men ineptly performing women’s roles is anyone’s guess. (Perhaps the much better Ballets Trockadero de Monte-Carlo doesn’t visit Russia often.) Nonetheless, he garnered official state support, and his troupe has been touring ever since to reviews that are — if the company Web site is anything to go by — respectful at the very least.
