Pursuant to Mr. Campbell's commentary regarding Noelani Pantastico's inability to complete the 32 fouettes in "Black Swan," I am reliably informed that this resulted from "shoe failure" in the midst of the fouette sequence.

I enjoyed very much the new format for the gala with a whole evening's work instead of just 45 minutes -- we got to see not only the best from the company but also pretty much the whole company.

Among all the superlative performances, the most fascinating were the excerpts from "Swan Lake" featuring Patricia Barker and newly-promoted Carla Korbes as Odette/Odile in an somewhat symbolic passing of the baton.
