Barbara Weisberger, a Former Balanchine Protégée, Still Champions Ballet

There are famous stories about Balanchine and his ballerina muses of course, but Ms. Weisberger, with her unusually broad perspective and tenacity, represents something more crucial in a historical sense. As a director she was Balanchine’s protégée, and she has devoted much of her professional life to teaching and promoting regional dance. Next Saturday, Pennsylvania Ballet will honor her with a birthday party, open to all, but especially to the dancers and choreographers whose work she fostered for decades. Proceeds will go to a new scholarship fund in her name for aspiring professional ballet dancers.
