The director of the Royal Winnepeg Ballet, Andrew Wilhelm-Boyles, was fired. Wilhelm-Boyles was credited with revitalizing the company. No reason was given for his firing.
http://www.infoculture.cbc.ca/archives/dance/dance_11262000_rwb.phtml

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited November 27, 2000).]

Sorry, but I can't get the above link to work. I did find a very brief item in today's Globe & Mail. This individual has been serving as the administrative director of RWB. Beyond his refusal to comment on his dismissal, he indicates that "I'm not guilty of anything." Interesting. To link to the Globe site, enter:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com and enter ballet in the search feature.
Stuart adds: The link in the post above should be OK now.
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited November 27, 2000).]

In another topic, dirk said:
Despite being about the only thing in Manitoba that anyone outside Manitoba has ever heard of -- sorry, that's an obligatory Canadian egregiousness: picking on Manitoba -- the RWB has fallen on bad times in recent years. Wilhelm-Boyles, who was joint-appointed with the Winnipeg Opera when the two organizations more-or-less merged some years ago, has been credited with doing much to restore it to financial health, anyway.
(I suspect that's code for "mounting a lot of Nutcrackers", though.)

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited November 27, 2000).]

From the Infoculture article:

quote:
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet has fired its executive director, according to a report in the Toronto Star.

Yet I can't find this story in the Toronto Star...
Does anyone know who the AD is? Is it Andre Lewis?

Frances, if you go to the Infoculture site www.infoculture.cbc.ca click on dance, the (so-called) story is there (I say so-called because the dismal dance "reporting" on Infoculture is completely embarrassing to me as a Canadian).
Yes, Andre Lewis is the AD at RWB. www.rwb.org A. W-B was an administrator for Judith Marcuse (DanceArts Vancouver) before he went to Winnipeg.
And since we're on the topic of what's going on in Manitoba, the Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers, directed by Tom Stroud, are well worth mentioning. They used to have a website but it's gone! Image WCD also have a very good school.

Marie, yeah I know... I was waiting to see if anyone noticed... Image
Sorry, Maggie, for leaving your spelling error up for so long. I hope I haven't been banned from your ranch.
[This message has been edited by Azlan (edited November 27, 2000).]

Azlan, it's embarrasing to have something mispelled that's not a typo. Thanks for the repair. You're still welcome at the wrench.

Here is the report from the Edmonton Journal, which I found somewhat amusing.
www.edmontonjournal.com/entertainment/stories/001127/4945534.html
